What is the Evans Fire District Project?

The Evans Fire District Project is the name of the process underway since mid-2010 to establish a fire protection district within the City of Evans. While this approach has been under consideration for several years the downturn in the economy makes it especially important that property owners and residents have direct input into how fire and emergency services are provided and funded. This approach provides this direct input.

If established, the Evans Fire Protection District will stabilize funding for fire and emergency services, replace aging fire trucks and improve fire and emergency services to the citizens and businesses of Evans.

The electors of the proposed fire district (the residents and property owners within the City of Evans) will make the final decision on the formation of the fire district and its funding through an election. This election is tentatively scheduled for November 1, 2011 as part of the general election.

If established the Fire District will be governed by a directly elected board of directors in accordance with Colorado state law. To maintain a strong connection with the City and the Evans community the proposed fire district, if established, will be named the Evans Fire Protection District.
